Joshua Chasez (JC) was in Orlando to do the Disney Channel show ‘Mickey Mouse Club’ (MMC). JC met Joey Fatone after less than a year of the show through a mutual friend. After two years of the MMC, new cast members were auditioned for, and Justin Timberlake was lucky enough to make the final cut and he became a regular on the MMC. JC and Justin found that their voices were well suited and they worked well together on various songs for the show.

Meanwhile Joey was at school and did plays and musicals on the side. His hard work paid off and he found a job at Universal Studios where he met Chris Kirkpatrick who was another employee there.

The MMC only ran for about four years, but JC and Justin knew that they wanted to continue working in the music industry. It jut so happened that they had the same voice coach and song writers in Nashville, Tennessee although they were both working on solo projects. Justin was asked to audition for a group, which, as fate would have it, was back in Orlando. That group didn’t amount to much but Justin had developed a friendship with another guy there.

Enter, once again, a certain Chris Kirkpatrick . The evening after the auditions Justin, JC and Chris were at a club in Orlando when they met a friend, of both Chris and JC- Joey. They introduced him to Justin and the four of them hit it off on the dance floor, where many people mistook them for a music group. They then got together to jam a little and they felt that, although the vibe was off the hook, they were missing something...the bass.

After a pretty unsuccessful hunt for a bass, Justin called up his old voice coach in Memphis, Tennessee to see if he knew anyone suitable for the job. He did. His name was Lance 'Lansten' Bass ( the name was pure coincidence), and at the age of sixteen he joined the group.

They soon clocked onto the fact that the last letter of their names formed a suitable band name. [For those of you that didn’t work that one out... Justi N, ChriS, Joe Y, LansteN, JC]
